Rain for a Thirsting World
Rain for a Thirsting World
[hojjatbaqaee-ir.blogfa.com]
My heart doth yearn for rain
unbidden, wild and free
That it may cleanse the world of woe and time’s decay;
For parched the earth doth lie as lovers’ lips that plea
A tender kiss from vernal clouds in soft array
No rain from heaven only do I seek tonight;
But from thine eyes, where gentle mercies ever dwell
From smiles of spring that break the chains of winter’s blight
And breathe anew the withered heart they sweetly quell
O would a northern breeze return from forests green
To lay upon my weary soul its ancient balm;
For in my breast a desert vast and bare is seen
Where Love lies cracked, and Waiting weeps in silent calm
Ye clouds that roam the far and restless sphere above
Let fall a rain of boundless grace on mortal breast;
For sorrow’d hearts of humankind crave simple love,
And long for bread, for hope, for peace, for quiet rest
In every street, in every eye, I dryness find;
A thirst no earthly spring nor mortal hand may stay;
O Rain of Hope, descend and cleanse the weary mind
And wash the dust of sorrow’s night from break of day
O kindly sky, where is the blue once thine to wear?
Where are the clouds whose gentle tears the earth restore?
Clouds linger yet, but shed no grief upon the air;
Command them, Lord of Sun and Storm—let fall their store!
For spring hath come with leafless boughs and silent bloom;
And earth, in dreaming, longs for but a single flower;
My heart for rain doth cry, to chase away the gloom
And grant the sorrowed soil new life, new love, new power.
Fall, tear of Heaven’s light through starry fields descend;
Let no poor heart in loneliness abide afar
But every soul find solace, every sorrow end
Beneath the gentle weeping of the eternal star
